Hi Suzanne:
If you're looking for something that could really change your life outlook I would look into Advaita Vedanta or more accurately Non-duality teachings. This is the stuff that is taught by Zen masters and those strange rishis who spend their time up in Himalayan caves( I exaggerate here a bit) and certain sects of Buddhism. In any case these non-dual teachings are well off the beaten path most seekers are on, but if you're really trying to find some answers to the problems of life try this. I would try the books of the following authors:
Gangaji
Eckhardt Tolle
John Wheeler
"Sailor" Bob Adamson
James Braha
Annette Nibley
All the above have books available at Amazon.com
Now if you want to read some of the stuff about Non-duality from sources in India the best are:
Sri Ramana Maharshi
Nisargadatta Maharaj-He wrote the classic: "I Am That", check it out, Amazon.com has it.
These two are excellent but are kind of hard to follow. Tolle is very big these days and popular as are his books. The others on the list are all excellent teachers.
I'd love to get into telling you about this but it's best if you look into this for yourself. Good Luck!
